Celebrity on hold messages… I don’t like them!
Wednesday, December 10, 2008 11:29I don’t know if I perceive it as an insult to my intelligence or just what but I didn’t like it today when I called Comcast about high speed Internet speeds I’m experiencing (or not experiencing) and, once I finally got through all the voice choice prompts, was greeted for my 3-6 minutes estimated hold time by the greeting:
“Hello fellow Comcast subscriber, this is Champ Bailey of the Denver Broncos thanks for hanging on the line we’re working to get you up to champ speed as quickly as possible. Please stay on the line and someone will be with you shortly.”
What! C’mon, gimme a break. I don’t know if it’s more sad that they’re using this gimmick in the first place, that there’s folks out there that actually think it’s cool, useful, or whatever the right word is to describe it, or that my subscriber fees (all too high nonetheless) are being used to pay a NFL millionaire to record and license the use of on hold messages. C’mon!

Maybe Comcast could lower our rates and stop paying celebrities to do stupid things like this. Oh, wait, that makes too much sense. What was I thinking??

Perhaps they are not paying him. Perhaps Mr. Bailey was caught stealing cable and this is some sort of community service some moron judge is making him do. Either way, I agree. I am impatient enough when on hold.
